    Overview

Sea Otter Classic 2027 is scheduled for April 15–18, 2027, in Monterey, California. This page is the pillar: it separates the two mountain-bike events athletes ask about, Fuego XL on Saturday and Fuego XC on Sunday, and points each one to its own fueling guide. Registration was open on the organizer’s site when these facts were checked.

Why Sea Otter 2027 is challenging

    • Two different races

Fuego XL and Fuego XC are not interchangeable. Distance, elevation, day, and intensity all change the fueling plan.

    • A course that is still being published

The organizer says the 2027 courses are new and that details may change. Do not treat an older edition’s map as this year’s route.

    • April weather on the Monterey coast

Temperature, wind, and start time change sweat rate. A plan should use a range, then narrow it from your own training data.

    Fueling challenges & strategy

General, evidence-based guidance. Numbers should always be personalized to sweat rate, body mass, fitness and weather.

Start from the event, not a generic festival plan

Use the Fuego XL guide for the long Saturday race and the Fuego XC guide for the shorter Sunday race. Carbohydrate, fluid, and sodium needs do not scale in a straight line between them.

Personal factors beat a single number

Body mass, expected finish time, heat, altitude of your training, and the products you already tolerate all move the target. FuelQ Pro treats those as inputs, not as a medical prescription.

    What most riders get wrong

    • 01

Using one plan for both events

An all-day XL schedule overfeeds a short XC race. An XC plan underfeeds XL.

    • 02

      Copying last year’s aid-station list

This guide does not list aid stations. The 2027 course is new, and older station lists are not evidence.

Why generic fueling plans don't work for Sea Otter 2027

Two riders on the same start line can need very different fueling. FTP, target finish time, body mass, sweat rate, temperature, altitude adaptation, nutrition products and race goals all change the answer. A generic 60 g/hr recommendation is a starting point, not a plan.
