    Fueling challenges & strategy

General, evidence-based guidance. Numbers should always be personalized to sweat rate, body mass, fitness and weather.

    Carbohydrate range

A common endurance starting range is about 60–90 grams of carbohydrate per hour for trained riders who have practiced that rate. Some riders tolerate less. The right rate is the one you have rehearsed, not a guarantee of performance.

    Fluid and sodium

Fluid need often falls around 400–900 milliliters per hour in mild conditions and can be higher in heat or for heavy sweaters. Sodium often lands around 300–800 milligrams per hour. Use your sweat rate, not a festival average.

    What this is not

These are planning ranges for healthy athletes who already tolerate the products. They are not medical advice, and they are not a promise that you will finish.

    What most riders get wrong

    • 01

      Borrowing the XC plan

Fuego XC is a different race the next day. Its shorter duration does not prepare an XL bottle schedule.

    • 02

Treating a cutoff rumor as a plan

Official timing notes belong on the organizer’s site. This guide does not publish cutoff times.
